Charter Communications took a stand on behalf of consumers – and consumers won. That’s the reality of Charter’s transformative deal with Disney, which ultimately gives our customers exactly what they’ve said they want from their video programming: more choice and a focus on value.
Consumers Win: Choice in Pricing and Content in Quality Video Packages
Charter will continue to offer the choice our customers demand, including the flexibility to choose from a variety of high-quality packages with varying content and pricing to meet various households’ viewing preferences and budgetary needs. The conversation about the cost of sports and the impact of the cost on families who choose not to view the programming has been going on for over a decade – and today, Charter’s efforts with Disney have created a better path forward, especially for those who don’t want – or can’t afford – live sports content.
Consumers Win: Savings from the Costs of Duplicative Content
This new deal offers a more customer-friendly model that will offer increased value for customers, including through savings from the costs of paying for often-duplicative app content.
In the coming months, Disney+ Basic, the company’s ad-supported streaming offering, will be provided to customers who purchase the Spectrum TV Select package, and ESPN+ will be provided to all Spectrum TV Select Plus subscribers.
Customers will no longer have to pay twice to get these streaming services.
And when ESPN launches its flagship direct-to-consumer service, that also will be made available to Spectrum TV Select subscribers without them having to pay separately for it.
Consumers Win: Credits for Affected Charter Customers
We sincerely regret the recent inconvenience to our mutual customers. The fact is, we want to be proud of the value that we deliver to our customers, and we knew that it was time to say, “enough is enough.” Working with Disney, we reached a deal that will save consumers money going forward. To address the loss of Disney programming over the last week, affected Spectrum customers will receive a credit on their bill.
Charter and Disney are uniquely suited and excited to be leading the way forward for consumers, creating an innovative model for the future while addressing their continued interest in linear programming. Today marks a new chapter for Charter customers, expanding our industry-leading affordability and choice, and Charter will continue to stand for customers – because customers deserve to come out on top.
