From competitive pay and great benefits to tuition-free degrees and self-progression programs, we're supporting our workforce and their long-term growth with Charter.
Why? Because investing in our workforce goes hand-in-hand with our business success. Over time, our workforce investments build happy, more knowledgeable, and longer-serving employees who treat our customers well... and satisfied, loyal customers drive business success.
“Invest in America” Trump Accounts Matching Program
Our newest investment extends our support to an important constituency: our employees’ children. Charter announced it has joined the federal “Invest America” Trump Accounts initiative – a new program that will see the U.S. government deposit $1,000 into an index fund in the name of every American child born from January 2025 through December 2028. Charter will match the federal government’s $1,000 contribution for its employees’ children, doubling the program’s impact for many working families across the country.
Learn more about how Charter is supporting and investing in its employees:
Competitive Pay
Charter offers competitive starting wages, with significant opportunities for employees to increase their earnings as they grow their career and progress to higher levels in the company. Every Charter employee earns a starting wage of at least $20 per hour, nearly three times the federal minimum wage. Nearly 85% of Charter employees are eligible for additional variable compensation based on their performance, including commissions or annual bonus.
Affordable Health Care
Charter provides high-quality, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for all full-time and part-time employees. To keep this coverage affordable for employees and their families, Charter has absorbed the full premium cost increase for medical, dental, and vision coverage for the last 12 years. An employee who has been with Charter during this time period has, on average, saved nearly $11,000. Charter contributes up to $1,500 per year into a healthcare account to help employees and their families pay for qualified healthcare expenses, and offers no-cost health improvement initiatives, including weight management, planned surgeries and second medical opinions.
Charter also offers live confidential counseling through its employee assistance program, which is available 24/7/365 at no cost to employees and their families. Support is available to connect employees and their families to services that help them manage everyday challenges and find support for emotional well-being, stress, anxiety, depression, and more.
Market-Leading Retirement Plans
Charter provides a 401(k) plan with a dollar-for-dollar company match up to 6% of eligible pay to all employees.
On top of that, most employees are eligible for an additional 3% company non-elective contribution through its Retirement Accumulation Plan (RAP), for a total company contribution of up to 9% of eligible pay per year. Together, these Charter contributions deliver a market-leading savings and retirement program for our employees.
Employee Stock Purchase Plan
Through Charter’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP), eligible employees (from frontline workers through senior managers) can choose the amount they’d like to contribute from each paycheck to buy Charter stock – up to 15% of their pay, with a maximum of $5,000 per year. Charter will match the purchase with a grant of Restricted Stock Units based on the employee’s tenure with the Company. The longer the employee has been at Charter, the more RSUs the employee will receive. As an example, an employee with 10 or more years of service at Charter will receive one RSU for every share they purchase. These RSUs fully vest after three years, offering employees another meaningful incentive to grow their careers with Charter.
Free & Discounted Spectrum Products
Employees are offered free Spectrum products, including high-speed Spectrum internet services with equipment included, Spectrum TV Select Plus with premium channels like HBO and Starz, two Xumo Stream Boxes and/or Set Top Boxes, Premium Streaming Apps, unlimited residential voice service and deep discounts on Spectrum Mobile for up to 20 lines. Employees who live outside of a service area are also offered free Spectrum products, including two Xumo Stream Boxes, Spectrum TV Stream, certain online premium video services and deep discounts on Spectrum Mobile. This program makes it easy for our employees to experience our products through the lens of a customer, with feedback and insights helping us improve our products and services for the communities we serve.
Parental Leave, Family Planning & Support
We recognize the journey to parenthood is different for everyone, and we provide a robust suite of benefits to support our working families. Employees are eligible for six weeks of paid parental leave in the six months following the birth or adoption of their child. Birth mothers also receive eight weeks of short-term disability income replacement benefits in addition to the six weeks of paid parental leave for a total of fourteen weeks of paid time away. We provide fertility benefits for our employees and their dependents so that all employees have an opportunity to build a family. We also have family planning programs and tools, along with financial support and up to $15,000 in reimbursement for costs associated with adoption and surrogacy.
Continuing Education & Tuition-Free Options
Seven of every 10 new hires at Charter do not have a college degree. Beyond learning and development opportunities within the company, Charter recognizes the importance of continuing education. Because paying tuition upfront can be challenging and managing traditional class schedules can be difficult while working full-time, employees can continue or complete their educations and develop skills for in-demand roles by enrolling in Charter’s education benefit program, which covers 100% of tuition for a catalog of hundreds of associate degrees, bachelor’s degrees, certificate and bootcamp programs from 30 universities and learning providers through Charter’s learning partner, Guild. In the first two years of the program, 68% of participants have been frontline employees and employees who have engaged in the program have been promoted at a rate 24% higher than non-participants. The education benefit also provides employees with up to $10,000 per year for graduate programs and tuition reimbursement for programs outside of the Guild catalog.
Self-Progression Programs
Many employees can access self-progression programs that provide them the opportunity to sharpen and gain new skills, advance their careers, and increase their earnings and retirement savings. Charter has specialized career pathing programs in Field Operations as well as for employees in customer service, information security, data development, engineering and more. In Field Operations, for example, employees completing requisite coursework receive a $500 coursework completion bonus and then advance to the next technical level, earning up to a 10% increase in their hourly wage. Similarly, a Customer Service Representative 1 (entry-level) can progress to Representative 2 and then Representative 3 based on their performance and metrics, with wage increases ranging from 5-10% at each promotion.
Broadband Field Technician Apprenticeship Program
In addition to its Field Operations self-progression program, employees can enroll in Charter’s Broadband Field Technician Apprenticeship Program, with national standards certified by the U.S. Department of Labor, available at no cost to employees. Graduates are industry-recognized as certified broadband technicians; a certification they can carry with them throughout their careers. Participating veterans can also receive GI Bill benefits in addition to their Charter pay and benefits while they are enrolled. More than 2,800 employees have graduated from the program since it began in 2018.
