Charter is working closely with the White House, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and community and industry organizations across the country to support a national COVID response by increasing access to quality information about vaccines and prevention measures, with a focus on reaching communities of color, many of which have experienced outsized impacts from the pandemic. Across 41 states, our more than 31 million customers live and work in diverse communities served by our workforce of more than 96,000 highly-skilled people – about half of whom identify as a person of color. And with Charter serving 21 of the top 25 African American television market areas and 20 of the top 25 Hispanic television market areas, we are well-positioned to help increase access to quality information about COVID-19 vaccines and prevention measures in multicultural communities and from coast to coast, including by:
- Donating more than 25 million airings of Public Service Announcements, including to the Department of Health and Human Services’ We Can Do This campaign and the Ad Council’s It’s Up to You campaign.
- Working with organizations like Unidos US, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), the National Asian American Coalition (NAAC), and the National Diversity Coalition (NDC) to develop and deploy bilingual educational content.
- Making Centers for Disease Control vaccination and prevention materials available to Charter customers through banner display ads across Charter’s websites, including its customer service portal and customer support app, and direct email blasts to customers.
- Distributing information about vaccines and prevention efforts to Charter employees via email and employee intranet.
- Engaging with a government-approved distributor to deliver vaccinations to employees on-site or in partnership with local community vaccination sites.
- Providing access to local vaccination resources on the Spectrum News App.
- Airing extensive vaccination educational programming on Charter’s 30-plus Spectrum News networks across the country and via Spectrum News’ digital platforms.
“Vaccination Education Week” Programming
As part of Spectrum Networks’ mission to strengthen the connection with local communities and in support of the nation’s COVID-19 response, Spectrum News recently dedicated a week of cross-platform programming to vaccination education and awareness across its 30-plus local news networks and on the Spectrum News App. This vaccination education and awareness programming, included segments and podcast conversations with health and policy experts explaining the science behind the vaccine and other prevention efforts, including:
- Spectrum News’ exclusive public affairs program “In Focus” provided community-specific information on why and how to get vaccinated, including conversations with Spectrum News’ award-winning National Health Reporter Erin Billups and local health and policy experts to further drive vaccination awareness in local communities.
- Cross-platform news programming also featured segments on the science behind the vaccine from Erin Billups and daily reports from Spectrum’s digital and multimedia journalists in regional markets.
- Spectrum News’ local podcasts, “To the Point Already”; “Central Florida: Beyond the Soundbite”; “SoCal in 17”; “Tying it Together with Tim Boyum”; “You Decide with Errol Louis”; “Crosstown with Pat Kiernan”; and “Off Topic/On Politics” dedicated episodes to COVID-19 vaccine awareness.
