Less than one third of Americans trust “most news most of the time” according to a recent Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism survey. The one bright spot in the research? Nearly two thirds of Americans say they trust local television news, even as the credibility of polarizing cable news brands continues to decline.
We’ve long recognized the vital role that unbiased and trusted local journalism plays in building and connecting strong communities, and changes in consumer sentiment only reinforce the importance of our mission to deliver quality journalism that focuses on local needs and objective facts. That is why Spectrum News continues to invest in innovative strategies that ensure our customers can access high-quality, objective local journalism where and how they need it.
Today, Spectrum News offer more than 30 news channels and digital networks across 12 states, as well as comprehensive digital-only content, podcasts by local journalists, local political coverage, election hubs and national debate coverage, and weather blogs. Our presence is in key markets across the U.S., including local coverage across multiple markets in California, Florida, Hawaii, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, and Wisconsin. Our Spectrum News bureau in Washington, D.C. works hand-in-hand with each market to deliver clear, relevant national news about how decisions by elected leaders are impacting local communities.
We also recently launched a streaming news channel and mobile app, Spectrum News+, available to customers across Charter’s 41-state footprint. In total, our linear and digital local news products provide quality, reliable coverage to 416 counties, including more than 20 counties without a single daily newspaper, known as “news deserts.”
The team at Spectrum News understands that authenticity doesn’t come from a studio in New York or Washington, D.C. It comes from journalists who live in the communities where they report. They are both subject matter experts and community experts. They know their neighbors and neighborhoods, and they focus on issues that are personal to our viewers.
Spectrum News also prioritizes proactive news gathering – rather than merely covering reactive opinions about the news of the day. When you turn on Spectrum News, you don’t just see a never-ending stream of breaking news alerts. Viewers experience long-form, character-driven storytelling that provides a genuine connective experience.
At a time when trust in polarizing news brands is on the decline, it’s this ongoing commitment to reliable and objective reporting that makes Spectrum News the gold standard for local journalism.
